One of My First n8n Projects

Well well… this is one of those stories that started of as an "test and play" run to being a very useful and successful tool/project. So it all started with my girlfriend, she works for an e-commerce store, and they had no way of doing professional product photography. Nor, could they afford to rent or hire anyone to do it professionally for them. This is where I come in..

Well my girlfriend said this to me: "Simon, can't you use your AI thingies to just make these photos look professional?".

I answered: "Yeah, I think so" (having no literal clue if it even was possible).

The Objectives

Before I started building this I had some clear goals of what I wanted this workflow automation to do:

• It should be able to take a casual product photos, taken form a phone & turn it into professional grade product photos

• It should keep all the details exactly like the original clothing item has

• It should be able to handle hundreds of photos per day

• Easy to run, just drop an image some where and get a product photo returned

What I built

This is what I build using n8n and for once no AI Agents actually, keeping this one to just being an AI automation workflow.

1. A trigger, so whenever someone drops a new image in a "set" specific folder — the workflow starts

2. It then sends the image via an API call (+ a preset prompt for the image generation) to Wavespeed AI (has lots of AI models collected)

3. Then the Wavespeed AI platform takes that prompt and gives it to Gemini's Nano Banana image editing model, which generates the "professional product photo", according to a very detailed preset prompt

4. The workflow then checks if all images have been created, if not, it waits and then checks again

5. When all images are generated they are sent to a set Gmail and the user then have professional grade product photos in seconds!

It's simple, yet very functional and does a very good job.

Results & Further Improvement

So what did we achieve?

Well. We now can create hundreds of professional grade product photos in minutes. Snap a photo on your phone, upload it, and AI does the work for you.

Saving quite a bit of money. On average one single professional grade product photo will set you back 400-1000 SEK (30-90 EUR). Using this I get that price down to 0,36 SEK (0,033 EUR) per image — or so -99.96% less. Now you only pay 0.04% off what you originally did, amazing.

A couple of things could also be added to the workflow. You can add in an image upscaler model after the image generation, to get a 4k or even higher quality on each image. Change the prompting to perhaps generate images for marketing ads and so on, adding in a unique brand DNA to keep the style consistent.
